Individual Project Proposal

Abstract:

I’m thinking of telling a story by a music work. As a music producer, I’d like to describe a story by composing a music piece. In this work, there won’t be much voice or words, but the melody of instruments and sound from the nature. I will manage to let audiences feel and understand what I want to express in the music when they are listening.

The music consists of six parts, which is relative to the development rules of the story, the Freytag Triangle. The story will have its basic element, the setting, the inciting incident, the rising action, the climax, the falling action and the Denouement. I am planning to display the story process by diverse music genres, depicting the emotional changes in different parts.

Brief Introduction of my story

This is a story about a boy. The leading role of the story is a boy called Felix. The story begins with the birth of Felix. He was born in a quiet valley that is filled with wide meadow and tall trees. He loves and embraces everything of his beloved hometown. He had a best friend named Sandy during his childhood. They climbed the grain pile and forded brooks, sharing the happiness and growing up together.

Felix lived a happy life with his family for 16 years till the war starts. The first bang of the valley triggered the signal of fighting back. Felix held the gun and protected the valley with other villagers. The sudden attack ruined the houses and pastures of the valley. Villagers burst into cry and scream. The 16-year-old Felix had to fight against the enemies with Sandy. Being too young, they gradually couldn’t afford more and retreated step by step. Sandy was shot by a bullet from an unknown direction. Felix pulled him back and screamed out. Falling into the desperate struggle, nobody came up to help but fought and shouted. Felix’s tears and scream was covered in the loud noise of the war in an instant. The helpless Felix stood up and fought back again.

Sandy died in this war at last. Felix joined the funeral. Losing the most important friend in the war made Felix so determined to be a soldier to protect his valley where he was born and grew up. He wanted to dedicate his life and glory to the victory and glory of his nation. The war won’t be stopped in a short time, which Felix knew very deeply. Finally he joined the army and left his hometown. Now it’s time for justice.

Weekly Assignment 4

Story:

Nick is a 18-year-old high school student.

He will graduate from high school this summer and go to college.

18 years have passed so quickly and Nick has a lot of hobbies.

He likes both music and basketball very much.

It's time for him to choose his future program in college.

Finally, Nick had the decision.

1.Nick wants to be a basketball player

1.1 Nick joins the college team and practices dribbling every day.

1.1.1 Nick gradually becomes the famous point guard of his college team. Now he is a hot candidate of new coming NBA Draft. 

1.1.2 Nick dribbles so well that he creates many new skill of dribbling. Luckily, he has a chance to show his skills in a charity game hold by a NBA team.

1.2 Nick joins the college team and practices shooting every day.

1.2.1 Hard working makes Nick become the top shooter of his team. He has an opportunity to go to NBA.

1.2.2 Nick behaves so good and he becomes the buzzer beater of an important game. Everybody knows him well. A NBA Team is interested in his basketball talent.

Because of Nick's great performance, he goes to Orlando Magic as his wish. Being a rookie player, he just wants to do his best in the future game.

2.Nick wants to be a musician

2.1 Nick wants to be a professional guitar player.

2.1.1 Nick practices guitar very hard and he has a chance to play in an underground stage in front of a few people.

2.1.2 Nick plays guitar a lot in college. Gradually he gets to know many talented musicians in his college. Tony, the amazing bass player, is one of them

2.2 Nick wants to be a professional DJ.

2.2.1 Nick successfully becomes a DJ student of the music college and he begins to do the DJ job in several clubs.

2.2.2 Nick learns DJ techniques and skills from a well-known old school DJ. He makes great progress and finally knows how to create a DISC himself.

At Nick's graduation ceremony, he stands in front of his parents, friends and strangers, performing a perfect show with Tony and other excellent artists. All the audiences there enjoy the show and the lighting as well. That's a big step for Nick to his future music career.

That's the story of Nick. He accomplished his goal at last, being a man who he wants to be. There are many selections in one's life, the only right one is what you will never regret for.

Weekly Assignment 3

Freytag Triangle

Léon

Léon is one of my favorite movies. I watched it for the first time when I was a young kid. After growing up to an adult man, I watched it again for many times. I found I had a complete different understanding of this movie. In this blog I set Léon as my freytag triangle example of story analyzing.

1. Setting/Explosion

Set up the basic role.

Leon: a professional Killer.

Matilda: born in a complicated family, her father is the informer of the Drug Administration.

2. Inciting Incident

Matilda’s family was killed by the Drug Administration Agent.

She knocked Leon’s door for shelter and help.

3. Rising Action

Leon started to teach Matilda how to be a professional killer.

Matilda started to take care of Leon’s life and taught him how to read and write.

Both of them finished many assassination missions.

Matilda decided to take agent’s life herself.

She broke through Drug Administration and caught by the agent.

Leon saved her life.

Agent set out to arrest them.

4. Climax

They were found in a hotel.

The force attacked the hotel and they all fired up.

Matilda was really in a dangerous situation.

5. Falling Action

Leon helped Matilda escape from the hotel.

He fought with the agents and got hurt.

Leon pulled the grenade and died with the agent together.

6. Resolution

Matilda ran with the orchid.

She had no place to go so she went to Leon’s boss for help.

She decided to go to school again.

7. Denouement

Matilda planted the orchid to the soil.

The sun shined on the field.

The music “Shape of my heart” was on.

Weekly Assignment 2

the Runner

Story:

This is a runner who never stops running. Once he was a fat boy, which made him feel inferior. His young friends teased and isolated him all the time.  He swore he would lose weight someday, so he started to run. At first, the boy could only run for 5 minutes, which made him really exhausted. Meanwhile, he felt lonely because he often ran himself. Gradually, during his running he found his sincere friends, who get up early, sleeping late, and never leave him alone. The sun is always smiling at him and the moon-washed path is always so peaceful. Today he keeps running everyday, the fat turns to become his confidence and desire for life. He never runs for losing fat any more, but for keeping himself in a good situation and healthy. Life is just like that, when one begins to fight for something and work hard, the result is always more than something. Keep running.
